Red…The color of love or the color of hate?
Here we have a difficult question to answer. We can all certainly agree on one fact, and that is that red is doubtlessly the color of passion. When relating the color to love, we immediately think of Valentine’s Day. Presenting our significant other with a heart shaped box of candy that is usually red is the traditional gift that indicates our true love feelings to our partner. If we don’t go the usual “candy route” a card with a red heart design or a bouquet of red roses can do the job of transmitting our amorous feelings. Another expression of our love may be a gift of red laced lingerie to a women and boxer shorts to a man with a design of hearts or kisses in red. So, we can understand better now the correlation between red and love.
Let’s delve now into the relationship of red to hate. We have here many examples to consider. What usually first comes to mind is that red is the color that signifies the devil or indeed hell. Another indication of red is used daily in our language regarding anger, an example of this is saying “she was so furious that she saw red.” The usage of the obligatory red flag during a bull fight signifies the doom intended and the hate/anger present in the arena. Our final example here is the sign that we view many times on a daily basis and that is the red stop sign.
So we now conclude our investigation of red as the color of love or hate. We can readily see that red is both the color of love and hate as well. What we all can agree on is that red is without a doubt the color of passion and intense emotion.
